HELPFUL INFORMATION NOTES
Kilometres for Catwalk -  Wairarapa endurance riders are putting their kilometres towards a good cause – raising money for research into spinal injury.   A number of riders taking part in endurance and CTR rides in the 2008-09 season are collecting sponsorship from family, friends, businesses and the community, with the proceeds going to the Catwalk Trust, in support of spinal injury research.
The riders are collecting sponsorship for every kilometre they successfully complete in competition – for example, if a sponsor agreed to pay 1c for every kilometre, and the rider completed 500km during the season, that sponsor would pay $5 at the end of the season.
Catwalk Trust is dedicated to raising funds to support research into spinal cord injury and its treatment.  The trust was founded by leading Wairarapa equestrian Catriona Williams, who suffered a spinal cord injury in a riding accident in 2002, and this cause is one which has had a direct impact on many in the equestrian community.  For more information on the trust go to www.catwalk.org.nz.
The Wairarapa Club would also be interested in hearing from any riders from other clubs who might be interested in becoming sponsored riders themselves.  If you would be interested in becoming a sponsored rider next season, or sponsoring a rider, please contact Helen Bain on h.bain@forestandbird.org.nz
or 0274 185 026.    Thanks

U.A.E. President's Cup Success Story
Pictured above (photo taken by Lin Cottle at Taupo North Island Champs 2007) is Jenny Hearn riding 'Silver Springs Kabir Arwa' which has just come 2nd in the Presidents Cup in the UAE.   He almost won this prestigious race as he was leading, but was pipped at the post by one second.

'Silversprings Kabir Arwa' belonged to Jenny Hearn before being sold and exported ~ she is one of NZ's most dedicated riders who has been competing endurance for over 20 years now, and is still riding and competing and doing well.

There was quite alot of interest about 'Kabir Arwa's'  Presidents Cup Race on the Aussie Endurance online Chat group as they were very impressed with his heartrates etc  -  this is one comment at the end of the 3rd loop:

"Have a look at the leading horses recoveries!!!  Unreal heart rates in less than a 1 minute present!   Amazing athlete... "
Congratulations to Jenny Hearn and to Anne Sparks who bred 'Kabir Arwa'.

WAHO Trophy Award 2009
More Info:  'Cyden Sun'  WAHO Resume

"Like Father, Like Son" ~  'Cyden Sun's' own sire 'Ngapa Joussif' was also awarded the WAHO Trophy for Performance & Endurance Progeny  in 2006.

Congratulations also go to another Club member Melanie Barker who has just been voted onto the Council of the 'NZ Arab Horse Breeders Society' where I'm sure she will make a significant and valuable contribution and intends to promote the sport of Endurance.

The WAHO Challenge trophy is awarded annually by the NZ Arab Horse Breeders Society and was donated by the 'World Arab Horse Org.' USA -  this special award for Arabians which set exemplary standard for the Arab breed is very highly regarded throughout the World.

Our Waikato Endurance Club AGM will be held on Sunday 5 July, 4pm, at the Karapiro Hall (same as last year).   There will a guest speaker and this will be followed by prize giving and a potluck dinner.
Last year everyone excelled themselves with the dinner and it was a wonderful feast, and a very pleasant get together for all.

Fun riders – remember we are including prizes for you this year so come along and join in.
